NOTW - Matte nails

On my nails this week I experimented a little with matte nails with glossy tips. I went with a plum colour  as it's bang on trend for Autumn. I chose Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish in Black Cherries & Rimmel Lycra Pro Matte Finish Mattifying Top Coat (£4.59).

I love the look of matte nails with glossy tips and decided to give it a go for myself.

With just 2 coats
With 3 coats

Rimmel say...
'Do you dare to rock the matte look? Rimmel shows you how! Apply over any Rimmel colour to instantly update your manicure. Be gone shiny nails. Matte nails ROCK! For the ultimate London look, apply over dark colours.'

TheBrunetteSays...
My first attempt, as you can see, 2 coats wasn't quite enough, so I tried again a couple of days later with 3 good coats of the nail polish followed with 2 coats of matte top coat. Once dry I applied the colour polish to the tips. I didn't use any tip strips, I just attempted to paint the tips on myself, so the application is a little amateur, but I was pretty happy with the finish.
The brush is a nice wide brush (Huge Lianne points! ;)) and dries super quick. The matte top coat gives the polish an almost velveteen finish. I love the look, really classy and is a great way to change up the look of your nails.
Unfortunately, after only a few days (maybe 3 at the most) the matte-ness almost disappeared and started to turn slightly glossy, it almost resembled 'gel/shellac' polish and by the end of the week they looked just like glossy nail polish. The matte-ness disappeared a lot quicker than I expected it would, definitely not living up to the 'up to 10 days' guarantee, which was a big disappointment.

Would I recommend it?
For the price, it's a good drug store brand to go for, and easily accessible as Rimmel is available everywhere. The finish is really nice, so I'd say give it a go for sure. But be aware that the matte-ness doesn't last very long at all. For special occasions and evenings out it's a perfect way to change the look of your nails. But it probably won't last more than 3 days.

Would I repurchase it?
I'd like to try another matte top coat, as this is the only brand I've used, just to see if they all lose their matte-ness as quick. If not, I'd definitely go back to this one, and settle for the fact that matte nails only last a few days.

Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish in Black Cherries is available at Boots, at £2.99.
Rimmel Lycra Pro Matte Finish Mattifying Topcoat is available (can't currently find online) at £4.59.
