So, we've prepped and primed our skin with our skincare routine, covered our blemishes with our concealer, applied our foundation, bronzed and contoured and popped a little colour onto our cheeks, last week we started looking at eye make up in the form of Mascara...

Now let's talk: Eyeliner...

Eyeliner is a type of makeup applied to the lash lines and waterlines of the eyes to help shape, define, accentuate and shape the eye area.

Depending on what look you're after, there are different types of eyeliners that create different illusions.

Which Eyeliner is best for you?
Liquid Eyeliner - usually comes in small bottle with a precision applicator, can be quite difficult to apply, takes practise and a steady hand, creates dramatic look, creates sultry look, creates cat-eye look, creates well-defined, bold, thick lines, used on upper lash line...
Pencil Eyeliner/Kohl - can be applied to upper/lower lash lines or waterline, easiest form of eyeliner to use, easy to control and manage, can be smudged for smokey eye look, creates more defined line when used sharp, some are available with smudgers or eyeshadows on the opposite ends...
Pen Eyeliner - comes with a large marker pen style precision applicator, easy to control and manage, creates well-defined, bold, thick lines, used on upper/lower lash lines, creates sultry look, creates cat-eye look, creates well-defined, bold, thick lines...
Gel/Cream Eyeliner - usually comes in a pot and applied with a special angled eyeliner brush, glides on easily, creates smooth fine lines, can be quite difficult to apply, takes practise and a steady hand, good for smudging for smokey eye look, used on upper lash line...
Coloured Eyeliner - usually available in pencils or pen style...

Eyeliner should be applied after you've applied your eyeshadow, and before you apply mascara.

For the top lash line: Stretch your skin taut, ever so slightly, without pulling. And with a steady hand (rest your elbow on a table or something for extra support if you wish) start as close to your lashes as you possibly can, drawing a smooth line. Go over the line, making it slightly bigger, moving slightly away from the lash line for a thicker line, or until you reach your look. Smooth flicks in the outer corners create a dramatic look.

For the waterline: Pull your waterline away from your eye really gently, not too much. Gently draw a line onto the waterline using an eyeliner pencil.
For the lower lash line: Gently apply a small line of eyeliner as close to the bottom lashes as you can, you may want to start in the middle and work your way out. Be careful not to go overboard though, you don't want to look like a panda now, do you?

Lined eyes are a must for me, I can't leave the house without lined eyes, whether it's super subtle or a more dramatic flick.

Here are the eyeliners in my collection:

L-R Be A Bombshell Eyeliner in onyx (£8.74) | Barry M Liquid Eyeliner in bronze (£4.79) | Avon In A Blink Eyeshadow & Liner in expresso* (£6.50) | Jelly Pong Pong 2in1 Eyeliner & Shadow in plum (£10.50) | Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyeliner in black (£15.00) | MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in marked for glamour (£17.00) | MeMeMe DramaEyes Precision Tip Eyeliner Pen in turquoise (now rebranded, colour not available) (£6.50) | MAC Eye Kohl in smolder (£14.00)
*Gifts

I use all of these liners for different looks/occasions. But I will use a black liquid liner on my top lash line and kohl pencil on my waterline on a daily basis.
The 2 I've been using a lot lately are the Be A Bombshell Eyeliner, which is a large marker type pen, which I apply to my upper lash line. It's a really nice size so I can apply a subtle line or go super dramatic with intense flicks, so it works really well for day time or night time looks. It lasts all day and is waterproof, perfect! I then follow with my MAC Eye Kohl to draw a line onto my waterlines. I've used this kohl for years and years and no other pencil comes close in my opinion.

Warning: Scary eye picture coming up!!

That's my take on Eyeliner. Join me next week to talk Eyeshadow.
