Beauty | Make Up Rumours : The Review

If you read my previous First Impressions post, you will remember that I was offered £10 off a £15+ spend of new beauty brand 'Make Up Rumours'.

Make Up Rumours is a cheap and cheerful, low end budget beauty brand which reminded me a lot of brands such as MUA, Miss Sporty... etc. All of their products are priced between £1-5.
I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a beauty snob and wasn't expecting much from them. But I was looking forward to seeing what they had to offer.
Read my First Impressions on the products here.

Okay, so I've been using the products for a week or so now, these are my thoughts...

Pressed Powder & Bronzer (£1.00 each)
I've been using the powder over my foundation for a week now. It feels soft on the skin and leaves a silky matte finish. It doesn't last all day, but it sets foundation nicely.
The bronzer is quite harsh, so its important to only use a little, as it isn't too blend able and is quite matte. With a bit of practise and use correctly, it makes a good contour!

Lipsticks (£1.00 each)
I was most worried about these, as they look awfully cheap and I'm used to the quality and creaminess of a MAC lippy. They aren't very moisturising, but the colour is lovely on the lip. It doesn't last very long at all though unfortunately.

Eye Palettes (£1.00)
These are my favourites from the whole haul. Although the product seems quite cheap, the pigment is amazing. The powders are quite loose, so you have to be careful not to load the brushes too much. They blend really well and last all day. I've created some lovely looks with all 3 of the palettes and will continue to use them.

Nail Polishes (£1.00)
Remember when you were younger and cheap nail polish smelled so strong you smelt the whole house out painting your nails, and your parents complained? Well you're taken right back to those days using these!! They're SO strong. The formula itself isn't bad at all, it's a decent consistency, applies nicely and dries pretty well after only a couple of coats. I haven't used the nail seeds yet though.
I was pretty happy with the finished result, it was a shiny finish and looked good. Unfortunately it all started to come off while I was doing the washing up the following morning. :(

My 'everyday look' FOTD and the products I used...

Would I Recommend?
Hmm, it's pretty cheap stuff. If that doesn't bother you then go for it! At £1.00, you won't be expecting miracles! But they make nice additions to your beauty collection for when you run out of your favourites. The palettes aren't bad at all, they're no Naked palette, but for an every day look they do the job. The products smell quite strong, like cosmetics did years ago. This is pretty off putting.
I personally think this make up range would be perfect for a young girl starting out in makeup, and would make fab gifts for tweens!

Would I Repurchase?
I probably wouldn't no, as I'm used to better quality personally. I'm currently attempting to swap my premium beauty favourites for high street beauty, to save some pennies, and I'm enjoying finding some new favourites amongst the lower end beauty aisles, but these are a bit too cheap and low quality for me.

Are you a fan of low end budget beauty?
Am I just being a bit of a beauty snob?

  3. I am by no means a buyer of expensive make up, preferring cheaper alternatives on the whole but these seem too cheap! I would perhaps get them for stocking fillers for my tween

  7. I think you like what you like. I use a whole different range of make up. I use Este Lauder double wear for night but use boots own Natural Collection tinted moisturiser for day and love them both equally.
Superdrug's MUA eye palettes aren't bad either... however, have tried almost everything in Bodycare cosmetics range and binned it all!

  8. I don't wear make-up every day now that I don't commute to London every day. When I do, I prefer Mac and Bobbie Brown. I think this new brand sounds too cheap for me. I don't think it would have the quality I'm used to. Great idea for Tweens starting out with makeup though.

  12. Hmmm, I'm wary of cheap alternatives. I've tried in the past and it can end up being a false economy in my experience. Thanks for your honesty here Lianne!

  13. I think I'm far too much of a make up snob myself - the idea of the cosmeticy smell etc doesn't appeal at all.
