Premium VS Drugstore Beauty | Revlon Colorstay Foundation

I decided a while ago that I needed to sacrifice spending a small fortune on my favourite premium branded beauty products, and try some cheaper, drugstore brands.
New baby, new house... I needed to save some pennies. But I'm just too addicted to my MAC. I'm too quick to go straight to MAC when I need something new. Although I've since found the drugstore aisles to be pretty exciting, and have found some fab little gems amongst them.

So I'll be posting some comparisons or reviews when I find some fab little beauties among the drugstore brands as part of my Premium VS Drugstore Beauty series.

Did you read my previous post on Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation?

I love my premium foundation so it's going to take a lot for a drugstore product to live up to my favourites.

But I've been recommended the Revlon Colorstay Foundation(£12.49)by a few people so I snapped it up and gave it a try.

Firstly, I did a better job at finding the right shade for me than I did last time. I'm a Nude. Good start.
It applies really well, the consistency is lovely. The only issue I have with application is it doesn't come with a pump or anything, and I can't seem to find mine [what are the chances that I left it on a foundation and took it 'back to MAC'?!] so I'm pouring it onto the back of my hand to apply with my brush, which can get a bit messy. Why it doesn't come with a pump I don't know... maybe its due to the thick consistency.

It claims to keep your moisture level balanced, which it does perfectly. Some foundations leave my t-zone quite shiny by the end of the day, but this hydrating formula kept my skin perfectly even all day long.

It does say it will give a beautiful satin finish, which I love the sound of, but I didn't find this. It's more of a matte finish and gives a barely there look.
I think that is my only negative about this foundation itself, I would prefer a slight satin sheer glowy finish yet you can't tell I'm wearing foundation at all. Which some people like in a foundation, I prefer more of a healthy glow from mine.

The foundation is build able which is a great, and always leaves an even coverage.
I have read negative reviews, that the foundation went patchy or slid off, but I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's not going anywhere. Even at the end of the day, I'm finding it harder to remove with my makeup remover than I do my usual foundations, which shows just how long lasting it is.

I love using this for an everyday natural look, but when I'm going out I add a little bit of MAC Studio Sculpt with my stipple brush for a bit of a sheen.

So, this is one drugstore product I'm loving!

Premium 1 - Drugstore 1.

Have you found any drugstore products as good as a premium brand?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

  1. I find there are LOADS of products which are just as good as premium brands. Especially when it comes to moisturisers!!

  2. Thank you for recommendation! I am about buying new foundation, so I might give a try! x

  3. Looks like a great foundation, I have never tried this one before ... stopping by from #Triedandtested

  4. I think we are all guilty of just sticking with what we know instead of trying something new. Good to know the supermarkets have a lot to offer. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
