The 5 Happiest Places to Live and Work in the West Midlands

credit: MaryJ

When it comes to the happiest places to live and work in the United Kingdom, you cannot go far wrong by looking at the West Midlands area. With an increasing number of jobs in Birmingham and the surrounding area, the Midlands is one of the happiest places to live and work in and it's also the perfect time to apply for a job. Through job search engines like Jobrapido, you can find the latest jobs available in Birmingham or in the area and filter the results by industry and other metrics.

Each year people in the UK are asked how happy or not they feel. The question asks them to give their score on a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 is not at all happy to 10 being that they are completely happy. When it comes to how happy we are, here in the West Midlands, the official figures show that we have some of the happiest places to live and work in the metropolitan area. The average happiness score for the West Midlands is 7.5 out of 10. This is in line with the UK national figure.

The numbers show that Solihull in the West Midlands is the happiest place to live. The saddest is Wolverhampton with an average score of 7.1. The top 5 happiest places in the West Midlands area to live and work are:

1. Solihull (7.6)
2. Coventry (7.5)
3. Birmingham (7.4)
4. Dudley (7.4)
5. Walsall (7.4)

Going further afield in the region, places like Lichfield in Staffordshire and Wychavon in Worcestershire are even happier with average scores of 8 out of 10.

As to what makes the people in the Midlands happy, there is unlikely to be one thing on its own that does this. It is more likely to be a combination of different things. It can include factors like job security, the economy as well as the area we live in for example. With an improving economy as well as a reduction in unemployment, people having a job and more money in their pocket mean that they are going to feel much happier. Just as important are the improvements in existing and new infrastructure. For example, the refurbished Birmingham New Street Station now means the area has a world class station serving the people.

For individuals in the West Midlands area, it is now the place that they feel happy to be living and working in.
